Co-Action Publishing Participates in JISC-sponsored Project

Co-Action Publishing’s Caroline Sutton collaborated with David Jennings (DJ Alchemi Ltd), Nicky Ferguson (Clax Ltd), and Seb Schmoller (Association for Learning Technology, ALT) in a project aimed at supporting the adoption of Gold Open Access by helping learned societies and other stakeholders make an accurate and honest appraisal of the challenges and providing tools and information to meet these challenges. The project was carried out on behalf of the Open Access Implementation Group in the United Kingdom with financial support from JISC. The resources were launched earlier this year (2013) and are hosted by JISC.

Online Guide to Open Access Journals Publishing

Co-Action Publishing and Lund University Library, Head Office launched the Online Guide to Open Access Journals Publishing on February 5 2010. The online guide is directed to small independent teams and provides practical information on planning, setting up, launching, publishing and managing an open access scholarly journal. Users can take advantage of additional resources in the form of links to related information, samples of applied practices and downloadable tools that can be adapted. The guide seeks to be interactive, allowing users to share their own best practices, tips and suggestions through a comment field. Although the guide contains some information that is specific to the Nordic region, most of its content can be applied internationally.

Development of the Online Guide to Open Access Journals Publishing was generously supported by the Swedish Royal Library through its OpenAccess.se Program The technical solution received support from the Nordbib Program; through cooperation with the project “Aiding Scientific Journals Towards Open Access Publishing”. The full press release is available here.

Co-Action Publishing works with Peter Suber

Peter Suber (Director of the Harvard Office for Scholarly Communication, Director of the Harvard Open Access Project, Facult Fellow at the Berkman Center, Senior Researcher at SPARC, and Research Professor of Philosophy at Earlham College) and Co-Action Publishing’s Caroline Sutton (Publisher) teamed up in 2007 to collate information on the experiences of scholarly societies who are affiliated with Open Access or Hybrid OA journals.

The initial list included the journals themselves as well as the societies, and was published on November 2, 2007 HERE. A description and discussion of the results was published by Suber & Sutton in the November issue of SOAN.

More recently Peter and Caroline were joined by Amanda Page. Amanda contributed greatly the production of a third edition of the list, identifying 832 societies publishing 780 full or non-hybrid OA journals.
